Holy Spirit Breathe on Me

By Lisa Janusa

We recently celebrated the feast of Pentecost or the Descent of the Holy Spirit upon Mary and the apostles after Jesus ascended into heaven.

Jesus had instructed them to pray and wait for the Holy Spirit. He told them that it was essential that he return to the father so that the Holy Spirit could be sent upon them.

I imagine that, after Jesus had resurrected and then appeared to them for 40 days, it must have been very difficult to let him go. Who is this Holy Spirit and how will he help us?

I recall the story of God’s creation of the first human being (Adam) when God formed him out of dust from the ground and breathed life into his nostrils, allowing man to become a living soul.  How would the Holy Spirit transform these ordinary men who were weak and afraid into champions of faith who would brave any obstacle to share the good news to the ends of the world?

This event was an epic moment and was the catalyst to transform future generations of people into bright shining lights of promise and renewal. As a strong wind came upon them and tongues of fire rested upon their heads, the presence of God in his Holy Spirit breathed upon them.

They received overflowing gifts and graces that would propel them into a world that needed to be transformed.

Every man, woman and child would be able to return to their proper place in eternity if they were willing to receive and be changed by the fire of the Holy Spirit!

Are you ready to receive this Holy Spirit and deepen your love for God? Come Holy Spirit, come.
