Remember to turn to God in your decision making

By Gina Sternfels

What are you going to be when you grow up?

This question is asked often as we grow up. For some, it may be obvious, but others they may go to college and figure it out. How many of us invite God into that decision?

My youngest son is a high school senior, currently working on college choices for the future. It’s different for him than for me at that age, as I was unaware of all the options. With strong faith, he wants to go to a Catholic college, and with that knowledge, he has many decisions.

As much as I try not to be stressed by this, I am. This is especially so when a new school gets added to the list and when the new school is in a different state.

The blessing is that we can grow closer to God as we make these decisions. We have God on our side and the many gifts he gives us.

I often ask friends to pray and ask our guardian angels for clarity for my son. I ask Jesus for peace to be patient with him. I do get to remind him to bring his decision to God for discernment.

We want to make decisions with God and move toward the good he has for us. We have free will and we have a gift of grace in receiving guidance from the Holy Spirit. So why not go to him and ask?

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives; and the one who seeks, finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened”  Matthew 7:7-8.

How is God calling you to use the gifts he’s given you?
