“A voice cries out in the wilderness, prepare a way for the Lord!”

By Gina Sternfels

We sang this song in church last weekend and that verse has been in my head since then, and it has been a gift.  Yes, a song in preparation for Christmas, but also it is an excellent line in the song to keep me focused on what matters most right now in December, amidst the distractions of the day.

This last week has been extremely challenging for me dealing with school issues for my son with autism.

It is not uncommon to have things arise, but specific issues I do not expect to deal with and some I would never expect to be experiencing, much less at this time of the year.

Having verses from the Bible and lines from hymns can help us stay focused on God.

God wants me to have comfort. He does not want any of his children lost in the “wilderness” of the world. I kept asking myself how to resolve this issue and remain in my values as a Christian.  I did not do it perfectly, but I did make progress taming the momma bear in me. Thank you, Jesus!

Days later, after a welcomed break from schooling for my boys, I can look back and learn from it. Either way, he loves and desires comfort for his children. He does not want us to fear, and he wants us to come to him.

I will go to him when I sing praise and get big bear hugs from my boys. Because when I do, I am grateful for a good God sending his son for me.

What wilderness is God calling you out of, where can he give you comfort?
