Take little steps to achieve 2022 goals

By Gavin Lewis

Each year, many of us set a goal or resolution to start the new year. We might want to spend more time with family, lose weight, read more, go to the gym, work out daily, get closer to God, etc. These are all goals we vow to keep, but we find ourselves slowly moving away from them as weeks pass and the year progresses.

Then, midway through the year, we look back and wonder why we could not stay committed to the goals that we set and had every intention of achieving.

We moved away from them, not because we had bad intentions from the beginning. Often, when setting those “New Year ” goals, we didn’t honestly evaluate why we chose those particular goals. We did not seek God as we should have. We did not ask God to reveal our weaknesses. We did not ask for his strength to help us achieve our goals.

Sometimes, we are so focused on the bigger picture that we tend to forget the small steps it takes for us to actually achieve the goals we set.

It is often said that small things done consistently over time lead to big things. We can all make great strides in life if we take small, yet, consistent steps in achieving our goals.

Consistent people will keep going, but inconsistent people will give themselves excuses to give up. 1 Corinthians 15:58 says “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.”

Do not let this year become another year of giving up on your goals or more importantly giving up on yourself. God has a plan for you. Take those smaller steps to achieve your larger goal. If you find yourself wanting to give up, seek God in prayer and remember your kids are watching.
