Anxiety

By Michelle Macicek
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” Phillipians 4:6-7.
Jesus tells us not to be anxious, but why does it feel like the anxiety rates are rising and starting earlier in our children?
I have recently been speaking with other parents about this as I see it in my own children and hear it from other parents more and more often. It has me wondering why? It also has me recognizing the dire need for Jesus. It reminds me of the simple truth that Jesus never changes, we just need to go back to our TRUTH that can be found in sacred Scripture.
While praying about this, there were a few things that were put on my heart to think about.
- Where is our children’s time and our own time being spent? This is the perfect opportunity to make sure we are spending our time on things that serve a greater purpose and allows us to use our God given gifts with and for others.
- Who are our children and we surrounding ourselves with? Are the people we are around walking with us and have the same purpose? Are the people we are around loving and accepting us for who we are and who we live for? Are we trying to get each other to heaven?
- Where are our children and where are we going to get help? If the answer is anything other than to “our father” then we need to stop and reroute!
I am not a doctor or a counselor, but simply a mother who wants and needs Jesus to help me navigate the times that feel unstable for both me and my children.
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid” John 14:27.
