Mind Over Matter

By Stacy LaMorte

Life can be overwhelming sometimes, especially for parents. Being the parents of three teens now, my husband and I regularly question which phase of our life was more difficult – being the parents of three toddlers or three teenagers.

I have written about this before – to try to enjoy right where you are in your parenting journey. Sometimes, this is easier said than done.

No matter how old your children are, though, practicing mind over matter can never hurt.

  1. Be present in the moment – however joyful or stressful.
  2. Take time to breathe it in and release any tension as you exhale.
  3. Then, realize that your mind is powerful enough to overcome any obstacle.

I find that saying prayers I know by heart help to take my mind off my problems, especially when I offer them up for someone else.

Lord, you entrusted us with these children because you know we are the perfect candidates to rear them. Help us to believe that and practice our mind over matter when we are in doubt. Help us to surrender to your will and to teach our children by our example to do the same. Amen.
