Thanksgiving is My Favorite Holiday

By Sarah McDonald
As I write this blog, Halloween decor is coming down and, in many places, particularly commercial centers, Christmas decorations are already going up! Everyone seems to be in such a hurry for 2020 to be over that we are trying to skip to the end of the year (and I can’t say that I blame anyone for that).
However, if we were to have the ability to fast-forward to Christmas a la Adam Sandler in the 2006 movie “Click,” it would be yet another 2020 tragedy. We’d miss Thanksgiving, and that is truly my favorite holiday of all.
Why, you ask?
Thanksgiving, despite my husband’s and my love of preparing creative spins on traditional recipes, is simple. It’s a time to be with family, gathered around the table, to give thanks to God for all of the gifts and blessings he has given us.
It’s just a beautiful day!
Jesus used the dinner table to give us the gift of himself in the Eucharist – which means Thanksgiving because it is an action of thanksgiving to God – and to show his apostles how to serve his people.
May we all try to focus our Thanksgiving tables on loving, sharing and giving thanks for one another and all that we have been given.
