The word of God comes to you

By Greg Zambrano

During quarantine time, we’re stuck at home, and we can’t go to Mass or adoration as easily as we used to. The solution I’ve found to remain close to God is reading the Bible.

Jesus said he is the way, the truth and the life. He is part of the “trinity” of God the father, the son and the Holy Spirit. He is the word of God and, through Scripture, we see Jesus accomplishing what he was sent to do by his father.

These are very powerful descriptions of our Lord, Jesus Christ.

Putting all this together, I designed a plan for my family.

After we’re done with family prayer, we take turns with the Bible and search quickly for a passage that we want to read out loud. Sometimes, we choose a long reading; sometimes we choose randomly even a short passage.

Afterwards, I tried to explain to my children what the passage is saying the best way I can.

Recently, we read Isaiah 55. In verse 10, it says: “For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and return not thither but water the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater.” Passage 11 follows with, “So shall my word be that goes forth from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and prosper in the thing for which I sent it.”

Reading the Bible as a family has been an excellent way for my family to stay close to God. Here, I’ve found nourishment during our current coronavirus quarantine time when I am in serious need of spiritual food.
