Faith Not Fear

By Stacy LaMorte
We have a responsibility as Catholic parents, now that Masses around the city have been cancelled to continue to profess the word of God to our children. They are not getting this reinforcement at school in daily prayer and Religion/Catechism classes so we, being their parents, need to step up and make sure this is being done at home. We must feed our faith and the faith of our children by professing and hearing the God’s Word as much as, if not more than, the words that we hear from the media.
I find that in my busy life, the best way to do this is through a daily routine of prayer in the morning and using technology to my advantage. You can subscribe to various apps on your phone or tablet so that you receive scripture verses throughout the day.
We remember that Faith comes from God and that Fear comes from Satan. The more we feed the fear that is circulating around the world, the more we fuel Satan’s fire. When we feed the Faith in our lives and the lives of our families, we are fueling God’s promises to us to protect us and lead us to peace. Romans 10:17 says, “Thus faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes through the word of Christ.”
Set up a daily time to read a devotional like “Jesus Calling: 365 Dovotions for Kids” by Sarah Young, adapted by Tama Fortner. It also includes the Gospel readings for the day. God will bless all of your efforts, big and small!
