Finding God in Dreams

By Kristy Solis

Have you ever tried to explain the importance of dreams to a child?  I tried with my daughters, and it was humorous to say it best.

The actions of dreams are important not only in the physical sense but the spiritual sense.

The ideal of dreams are woven through important messages in the stories of the Bible. These dreams offer insight into God’s will for us. Many dreams may include visions or wisdoms which could change the outcome of one’s life.

When I was a child, I remembered being asked “What are your dreams?” and “What does God say in your dreams?”

I did not fully comprehend (until later in life), the essences of these questions and the importance of asking a child these questions.  When I started to see God in my dreams, I appreciated the importance of dreams.

This is a real-life story, which I shared with my girls upon my recent graduation of earning my doctorate degree.  Therefore, I told my daughters the following story of how I got to where I am presently.

It was all through a simple dream. When I graduated with my first degree, I had a special friend that crossed my path.  When my friend and I filled out our senior books, we wrote in the book, “We will rule the college one day.”

Then, fast forward – my friend and I are colleagues at the very college where we made the simple pact and are now receiving doctorate degrees together.

God led us down this path with a dream.  Simply, this was God’s divine intervention. My daughters were amazed by this true story, which led itself to the importance of not just dreaming but finding God in their dreams.

Let us pray to the Lord with this verse in the Bible –

“For God may speak in one way, or in another,
Yet man does not perceive it. In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls upon men,
while slumbering on their beds, then He opens the ears of men, and seals their instruction” (Job 33:14-16).
